There’s unease and terror as one descends into Blighttown which is then followed by happiness as one breaks out into the Valley of the Drakes and back to Firelink Shrine. The transitions, as well as feeling natural (as in yeah, I could see a forest backed onto a castle, and a difficult to navigate fortress protecting a great city) really bring out emotions in a player. What’s so great about it is how interconnected everything is and how each area transitions to the next. Not the worst area and not the best but decent enough.īut everywhere else in the game is nailed on brilliance. Still though I dug all the old abandoned temple buildings and the atmosphere there felt like a place that was genuinely lost from time, having been consumed by a disaster long ago. The reused boss enemies do reduce the impact of the earlier encounters somewhat.

And the enemy variety and design isn’t as strong as the rest of the game. There’s a fair bit of running over lava and flat planes as opposed to the verticality the rest of the game has. The Tomb of the Giants is very dark which can make getting around a bit of a pain, particularly when trying to remember where to go for subsequent play throughs and Lost Izalith while I didn’t find it as awful as everyone said it would be isn’t the greatest. The areas in question are the Tomb of the Giants and Lost Izalith.

There are some area’s I’m not crazy keen on but they don’t ruin the game for me in anyway. Exploring Lordran has been an utter joy for the most part.
